I'm not sure if I'll be able to come up with clever titles for each post...

obviously not, as that's not a good title at all. Anyway, day 2 and I'm posting again - a good start.

I've not done anything on the to-do list (but did other things that hadn't yet made it to the list, I promise!) - no worries, though - I've got a free day tomorrow to do lots.

Today, I'm grateful for:
  • still getting excited when I get an email from Pete (today's our 1,400-dayiversary!)
  • having a precious house*
  • a good group of guys at work
  • the nice bottle of Côtes du Rhône we opened tonight
goodnight!

*there are other adjectives to describe the house, but apparently "precious" is on my mind!

And so it begins...ground rules

Each time I post, I'll list at least 3 things I'm grateful for - repeats are allowed, but new entries are encouraged. I'll then post some of the items on my to-do list. Not all at once, because that will make me cry. It's probably important that I note my successes when I actually DO some of the things on the list...

So, here goes!

Today I am grateful for:
  • my husband
  • my health
  • poppy (our cat)
  • my precious house
  • my ability to see the humour in (most!) things
  • amazing friends
(I'm limiting it to six items...for now)

My to-do list for today/this week/this month:
  • Virginia taxes
  • US taxes
  • NZ taxes
  • customs forms for shipping goods
  • Wachovia transfer
  • make muesli
  • 5KWU (secret squirrel stuff)
(6-item limit so I don't get too overwhelmed)

Whoa, this is going to be boring! I'll try to spice it up from time to time (even though this will not likely actually be read by anyone and any spiciness comes at the expense of productivity on the items in the to-do list...)

4 years later...

OK, so I decided the other day I'd start a blog (for reasons I'll explain shortly). I couldn't decide what to call it, so settled on an old favourite - guacamole theory. Turns out I already started a blog (there's an element of irony that will be revealed shortly) - this one. 4 days before starting this blog way back in 2005 I'd met some guy at a party and wrote my first post the night before our first date. I've since married that guy - which may go towards explaining why I didn't have time for a blog...

but here I am, lying in bed with my husband and my cat. good times.

Last night, the largest lotto jackpot in New Zealand was won - $36 million and some change. I didn't win. (well, I won 5th division - a free ticket - but I don't think that's what they are on about in the "living the dream" commercials.) Anyway, I don't usually play the lottery, so this whole dreaming about what we'd do if we won got a bit out of hand, and I was pretty upset that we didn't win (and I know the chances of winning are infinitesimally small, but still). I had thought of all the stuff I'd do with the money, and a lot of the scenarios involved me getting things sorted - having time to do all the stuff I procrastinate about (cue ironic foreshadowing - setting up a blog in 2005 and not doing anything about it for 4 years.).

We didn't win and I was grumpy and bratty about it all night.

I've gotten over myself and have come to 2 conclusions - 1) I don't have to win the lottery to get things done - I just have to DO them (and not necessarily write about them in a blog instead, but I'm hoping I'll shame myself into completion as done to great effect several times in the Debbie Does Edmonds blog), and 2) I have HEAPS to be grateful for and seriously need to get some perspective. I may not have $36 million dollars, but I do have a pretty choice life and need to get my head out of my bum and realise it.

So that's the focus here - getting things done and gratitude. And grammar and guacamole, because I like them and they start with G.

Welcome to my blog!

yes, I've officially become geeky enough to have a blog. not geeky enough to know what to do with it, but getting there. I've just purchased a laptop, and I'm loving it! The main purpose of this website will be to keep everyone up to date on goings-on in Wellington (for those here) and to give those of you around the world more frequent updates of what's going on in my life.

So, without further ado, I'll start work on listing upcoming Wellington events...
